1. Field lacrosse
Field lacrosse is men’s outdoor lacrosse sport. The game field is 100 meters long, 55 meters wide. The goals are 6’ X 6’ X 7’ and are located inside a circle. There are 10 players on field for each team, which include 3 attackmen, 3 midfielders, 3 defensemen and 1 goalie. Different roles of players use different length lacrosse sticks. The regular playing time for a field lacrosse game is 60 minutes, which can be divided into 4 periods with 15 minutes for each.
2. Box lacrosse
Box lacrosse is played on an ice hockey rink where the ice has been removed and covered by artificial turf. The other playing location of box lacrosse is indoor soccer field. The goals of box lacrosse are 4’ X 4’. Each team has 6 players on field that include 5 runners and 1 goalie. Comparing to normal lacrosse game, box lacrosse players need to wear more protective equipment, such as chest protector and leg pads. The duration of box lacrosse consists 3 periods with 20 minutes for each. While for National Lacrosse League regulation, the playing time is same as the field lacrosse.
3. Women’s lacrosse
Women’s lacrosse rules are much different from the men’s lacrosse. For women’s lacrosse, players wearing less protective equipment and do not allow physical contact. Additionally, in women’s lacrosse game, each team can have 12 players on field.
This kind of game also called as soft stick lacrosse. Intercrosse don’t allow physical contact with more safety equipment. For instance, the playing ball is larger, softer and hollow, while a normal lacrosse ball is a solid rubber ball. The intercrosse goal is 4’ X 4’.
