Ice Hockey Equipment

Ice hockey is full of physical contact and speed game. Therefore, protective equipment is applied to prevent injuries. Specifically, skaters and goaltender have different requirements. 


Skater Equipment

Skater is forced to wear helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, protective gloves, padded pants, mouth guard, jock, shin pads and skates. 


Goaltender Equipment

Goaltender need to wear a jock, large leg pads, blocking glove, catching glove, a chest protector, a helmet with cage worn in front of face, a large jersey and specialized skates.



Skates for ice hockey game need to function fast and manoeuvrable. Moreover, skates also need to protect skaters during competition. Nowadays, skaters equip alloy steel blade, which is featured with light, high durability and rust resistance. Skates have different features based on blade length, thickness and radius. Goaltender’s stakes are surrounded by specialized hard leader to enhance the protective ability.  


Hockey stick

The stick is combined with a shaft and a long, wide and curved blade. Sticks are made by wood material or carbon material. For skater’s stick, the length could not bypass 147 centimetres, the length of blade should less than 32 centimetres and is 5 to 7.5 centimetres wide. For goaltender’s stick, the length of widen shaft part needs to less than 71 centimetres and the blade should less than 39 centimetres long and 9 centimetres wide.
